I finally got around to ordering parts for my X-500 rebuild. I ended up going with the Scorpion 4035-460 (just because the Turnigy had a crazy-long lead-time, and I don't like waiting).
The thing is tiny. I mean, really small. Tiny.
 5.67 KB
And now I'm trying to figure out how I could possibly mount it.
So far, the only idea I have is to take the 500 watter apart and attach this guy to that casing (somehow).
Anybody got any bright ideas for me?

oh.. noooo dont trash a motor for that. if you have access to a metal shop just have them make you a reducing bracket plate using the old holes of the 500 watter and the new holes of the new motor. |

| Both good ideas, but gameboy is right. You'll want that motor for something else eventually. Just get some plate steel/aluminum like gameboy said and replicate each drill hole pattern, then have them welded together with the right spacing. I've been wanting to see someone do the powerful brushless outrunner for a while now. This isn't the biggest one, but I'm still very interested in your controller/throttle setup. |

Bwah. You guys sound like you must have lotsa space to keep mounds of old motors just in case you might need 'em one day...
But, yeah, point taken. It is a rather rude and unnecessary demise for the 500 watter. It looks like there's a machine shop scooting distance from my house... I'll see if they can help me out with a mounting bracket.
For the controller/throttle: I'm using a Kelly KBS controller. Or trying to anyhow. We'll see if I can get it figured out before I burn something up. And I was planning to just use a cheapo hall-effect twist throttle.
I'll see if I can update my project thread with all my chosen parts and plans in the next few days. (Juggling too many projects right now.)

sell me the 500 watter cheap, and use PART OF the cash for the mounting bracket fabrication.

Heyo,
So, I ended up making a bracket myself out of the cover for a metal electrical box.
 7.53 KB
It fit the motor perfectly, and the positions of the original bolt holes was almost exactly where I needed them.
 7.24 KB
But the bolts I got to mount it to the frame were 1/2 inch too short. I'll have to pick up some longer ones.
 8.84 KB
I used some big fat fender washers and squished the bracket between two nuts to try to brace it well against the torque the motor will generate turning the chain. I'm not sure it'll be enough, though. I'll try it out and see.
Thanks for the input, gents.

Just to give all yall an update: I found some 5 inch bolts and hex connectors to come in from the other side.

I think that makes it much more secure.
I'm still working on the wiring, though, so I haven't seen it spin yet. I ran out of time last weekend. And I'm slow anyhow.
